[ship dates?]
[Anime Village Dates]The purpose of this page is to collect new release (and re-release) dates from the many North American commercial anime companies, and put them all in one place.
I am receiving the release dates from a combination of the companies own web pages, catalogs, press releases, and direct from the companies. Thanks to all the companies who are taking the time to supply me with release dates. I am trying to improve my contacts with the other companies so that I can provide a more comprehensive list of release dates.
While searching the web for new release dates, I came across another page of new release dates. It's organized differently then my page and well worth having a look at. A link to Gille's page can be found on my Links page or you can just click HERE. When I use his page as the source for a date, you will see a "+" next to the date.

After years of good service my ISP Interlog was asimalated by PSI net. Since they shut down the Interlog office and let all the staff go Interlog is little more then a domain name so it was time to find a new home. Cyberstation kindly offered me the space to host my own domain (mytas.com). Since I had to change the URL, I set up my own domain so I will never have to do it again.

Viz Video titles are now distributed by Pioneer. This is the end of the Viz ship date<g>. From here on Viz dates should be more reliable.
Viz has announced the end of Maison Ikkoku dub and a change of the way the Sub will be sold. Some kind of direct subscription. Watch the front page for news.

I've given up trying to get release dates from Anime Village. From now on I will be listing the general release dates, when you can find AV titles at your local shop. You may be able to order them a little sooner direct from the AV web site.

Happy New Year everyone. Sorry for the long delay between Updates. Too much time spent over the holidays at work.
Nov 22, 98
Updates have been slower then I like for the last while. Too much overtime at work! Things seem to be getting a little better so I should be able to update more offten and spend more time digging for new info.
I've decided to drop all Live Action titles.

Since my last note hits have passed the 10,000 mark. DVD releases continue to grow but delays are still the norm. These growing pains are normal for a new media, it's not just anime DVDs that are affected.
The Pioneer and Anime Works web sites have been much improved, if you have not visited them in a while take a look (links in the "links" page).

All the reviews are back on the main Interlog site. They increased my transfer limit to 5 times what it was, thanks Interlog<g>. I've also just added a simple 'star' rating to the reviews, click on a star to see the rating system.

I think it's about time to add something here ;-)
Lots of new titles being announced the last while, and not all fighting and hentai. We are starting to get a wider range of titles even some shöjo titles like Utena & Fushigi Yügi. Also more DVDs but delays are the order of the day. Trying to keep the DVD page up to date is a pain but it's the most popular page on the site so I'll keep at it!
I moved the review archive to a different site. I may have to move the new review too as I'm starting to get close to the transfer limit set by my ISP.

I received an email to let me know I had the wrong Gundam movies listed. I've updated the page. Thanks
July 7, 98
The club links has not been popular (3 hits in the last month) so I guess it was a bad idea. I will not be updating it other then adding a couple of links to other club link sites.

I'm going to test a site search engine from Bravenet. If it looks useful I'll move it to the home page. For now it's here to try out. There were some problems with it but they were quickly fixed after I made a bug report. If you want a search engine for your page check this out.

Along with this update there is also a change to the home page. Some people reported that loading a different logo every time they returned to the home page took too long. I have replaced the Java scrip with a new one that will only change the image once an hour. Flipping back and forth should be faster now. The WebTracker stats link got broken somehow. It's fixed again but the average hits per day is lower because of the break.

More new releases this month. DVDs are starting to show up in greater numbers too. The number of people using the site is still increasing slow but stedy. Added a new review for the new KOR movie, put all the old reviews back for those intrested in what I think;-).
New club links page. Good set of links for Canadian clubs, now I have to start on the US clubs. If you are a member of an anime club please send me the name, location, URL of web page and I'll add it to the list.

The last month has been very quiet in the new release department. Now that I gave up waiting for more release dates and made an update to the page I should get a whole batch in the mail....;-)

Over 550 hits so far but I wanted to get a bit more info on who and when people are visiting the page so I've added Webtraker to the page. It's only been running a few days but it looks like a good service (and it's free<g>). You can have a look at the stats if you like by clicking HERE. Should be intresting to see in a few weeks when some stats pile up.

The home page, links, and review should load much faster now. All graphics have been optimized.
I am now receiving release info direct from MediaBlasters. I'll have much better coverage of Kitty Media and AnimeWorks (the new main stream anime branch) releases.
All pages for February and latter are now converted to printable characters. More useful for people without Graphics and symbols printed in B&W are now readable. Thanks to Alan Peters for the idea!

Added a new review. Testing switching from the graphic to indicate new titles etc. to using printable characters ( * ) for people with text browsers or for anyone who wants to save the page to look at latter. See the March page and let me know what you think. Not as nice looking but is it more useful?

Happy new year!
I redid the home page and added a little JavaScript to display random logos just for fun (if you only see the Sailor Moon Logo your browser doesn't support JavaScript or it's turned off). I tested it with Nescape 4 and IE 3, so I hope it's not giving anyone a hard time. Next up, time for a new review!

Things have been busy for the last while so I only had time to keep the new release lists up to date (the important stuff!). This week I've had some time so I've added a new review and made some small changes to the front page. The important stuff is at the top now.

I don't have the exact total for September because my ISP cleared my web stats before the end of the month. But it was over 300.
As some people have requested an easy way to locate new entries I will now include a (now using "*" ) after the date on new or updated entries. If you think it's a little too much let me know and I'll turn it down a bit ;-)
September 12, 1997
As of September 12th I've passed the August mark. 157 hits. :-)
September 7, 1997
Total hits for August were 151. At the current rate it should top 200 this month.
August 21, 1997
I've passed the 500 hit mark and more important I think, the site has received 105 hits this month, as of today. It's the first time the site has reached 100 in a single month (89 last month) and it's only the 21st. :-)
August 8, 1997
The Anime New Release Clearing House has been up for four months now. The counter is nearing 500 hits and the rate of hits slowly increasing each month. If people keep coming, I plan to keep offering the site. Thanks to everyone who visited and especially to those who took the time to offer feedback.
FAQs
Q: Why do companies make release dates but then go and ship the anime titles weeks before the date?
A: It's a distribution thing. Most video and some computer software too.
There are two dates listed on press releases. The first is the "order cut off date". That is the last date a store can order a title and be sure of getting it by the "street date". The street date is the date a title is supposed to go on sale.
As an example I have the press release for Slayers Vol. 7 sitting next to me. The Order cut off date is July 6th, the street date is August 4th.
What normally happens is that the distributor (Central Park Media in this case) will start shipping sometime after the cut off date but before the street date. Stores are supposed to sit on the tapes until street date.
This way all the stores can start selling at the same time and no one has an advantage because they got the tapes a few days early. It's all based on a kind of "gentlemen's agreement" with no force behind it so in the real world a lot of stores slap the tapes on the shelf the second they get them.
Viz Video is the only exception, they don't publish street dates. They use ship dates. As a rule they show up a few days to a week after the date listed.
Anime Village has two sets of release dates. One for it's own sales through the Anime Village web site, and a second for general sales through retail chanels. The release dates for the Anime Village web site have not been updated in almost 4 months. I've decided to switch to the retail chanel dates as they are more reliable.
